I am from: Willamette Valley, Oregon, USA.

The Story: Founded in 1993 by Dr. Donald Olson, Torii Mor is a beautifully poetic, cross-cultural tribute. The unique name seamlessly blends two distinct languages: Torii is the Japanese word for the sacred gateway welcoming visitors to a spiritual space, while Mor is an ancient Scandinavian word for earth. Together, they capture the estate's core philosophy—treating the grapevine as a sacred gate to the earth through which nature's finest expressions flow. The journey originally began on the high-elevation slopes of the Dundee Hills at the historic Olson Estate Vineyard, which was planted back in 1972 and stands as one of the oldest vineyard sites in all of Oregon. Today, under the precise guidance of French-born and Burgundy-trained winemaker Jacques Tardy, Torii Mor operates out of a state-of-the-art, LEED-certified gravity-flow winery powered by a solar array. Practicing strict LIVE sustainable viticulture and relying on minimal cellar intervention with native yeast fermentations, the winemaking team focuses entirely on crafting liquid art that values pristine elegance over heavy, over-extracted muscle.

Why You'll Love Me: It is lithe, exceptionally graceful, and beautifully aromatic—a textbook Oregon classic that trades heavy-handed extraction for silky precision and a mouthwatering savory edge. In the glass, it pours a beautiful, translucent ruby-garnet color. The nose is instantly seductive and highly expressive, bursting with a vibrant basket of fresh red cherries, wild raspberries, and tart cranberries, intricately woven with elegant undertones of orange pekoe tea, fresh violets, cinnamon stick, and a subtle whisper of damp forest floor. On the palate, it hits with a light-to-medium body and a remarkably supple, satiny texture that effortlessly glides across the tongue. Though light in physical weight, it delivers an impressive intensity of crunchy red fruit and baking spices, held perfectly aloft by a tangy, refreshing beam of cool-climate acidity and ultra-fine, barely-there tannins before sailing into a long, seamless finish marked by a distinct, savory touch of earth and a kiss of spiced oak.
