The Story: Subject to Change Wine Co. exists as a canvas for exploring time and place in Northern California. The winery was founded in 2017 by Alex Pomerantz–inspired by a true love for the intersection of California’s unique agricultural landscape, natural wine, and the many people and experiences that come along with those arenas. Over the years our team has grown, and with the help of Jonathan Walton, Kelsey Freeman, Natalia Kaminski and Dominique Henderson, our company has continued to grow, adapt, progress and improve winemaking and viticultural practices vintage after vintage. Bringing together wines from a number of producers and locations, they emphasize variety, quality and a deep sense of values.
Owned and farmed by Jake and Shauna Des Boignes, Hartwick Vineyard is located in Lodi, CA. The vineyard was established and planted by Shauna’s grandparents. It’s mostly planted to orange muscat, with some grenache, mourvedre, fiano, and greco on the periphery. Jake and Shauna were well-established restauranteurs in San Francisco, and some of the first people to bring upscale farm-to-table dining to the Mission District. However, with Shauna’s farming upbringing and desire to raise their children with an agricultural understanding, Jake and Shauna left the city after many years and moved their family back to the family vineyard. Their vineyard is Lodi Rules-certified (a regional, sustainable winegrowing program), however, they go far beyond these certification standards and strive to farm the vineyard as holistically as possible.
Why You'll Love Me: Floral notes on the nose with a hint of tropical peach character, unspooling into layers of ripe citrus, grapefruit pith, and tons of warm spice. The finish is off-dry, having spent some time in neutral oak.
