The Story: Slavcek is the name of an old winery in the Slovenian region of Vipavska Dolina (Vipava Valley) whose origins can be traced back to 1769. It is located in the rural village of Potok, a name that in Slovenian means "in the middle of the woods.” The small village, as part of the Vipavska region sits in an expanse of woods, like the vineyards and cellar. The estate is currently managed by Frank and Alenka Vodopivec, a willing pair of winemakers, who devote themselves heart and soul to quality production. Their approach which foregoes any use of chemicals and gives the utmost attention to care of the plants is also helped by a climate which helps for a perfect growth of the grapes, which also enjoy benevolent sea breezes that come from the nearby Adriatic Sea. This creates a setting which is perfect for creating just the right temperature range between day and night.
