I am from: Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina.
The Story: Founded by visionaries Jon and Arlene Malinski and meticulously guided by native head winemaker Valeria Antolín, Piattelli Vineyards is an architectural, gravity-fed marvel tucked against the towering foothills of the Andes. While Argentina is globally celebrated as the kingdom of Malbec, the winemaking team recognized that Mendoza's high-altitude desert playground provides a flawless paradise for Cabernet Sauvignon. Grown at nearly 3,500 feet above sea level in the prized, stony soils of Luján de Cuyo, the vines are irrigated with crystal-clear Andean snowmelt and thrive under blazing alpine sunshine and chilly mountain nights. To buffer the grape's naturally muscular architecture and lock in its rich, texturally satisfying character, Valeria ages the juice for up to eight months in a thoughtful combination of French and American oak barrels—proving that Mendoza can craft world-class Cabernet with a uniquely plush, smooth South American soul.
Why You'll Love Me: It is bold, wonderfully structured, and deeply expressive, successfully bridging intense dark fruit indulgence with a polished, accessible mouthfeel. It pours a dense, luminous ruby-crimson color in the glass. The nose is highly complex and instantly welcoming, greeting you with an aromatic bouquet of ripe blackcurrants, wild mulberries, and red chili pepper flake, seamlessly underlined by accents of cracked black pepper, tobacco leaf, and bitter dark chocolate. On the palate, it delivers a generous, full-bodied weight that confidently coats the mouth with layers of plush black fruit and warm baking spices. Driven by a well-calculated thread of refreshing mountain acidity and supported by firm, delightfully dusty tannins, it glides into a long, satisfying finish laced with a whisper of cedar, orange peel, and a soft kiss of sweet vanilla.
