Good for: Treating lovers of opulent, velvet-textured California reds to a masterclass in Lodi fruit concentration; anchoring a backyard barbecue or steak night with an unapologetic crowd-pleaser; or exploring a cleverly constructed multi-grape blend that marries historic old-vine heritage with modern, plush winemaking.

Grape: A rich, estate-grown blend of Petite Sirah, Old Vine Zinfandel, Tempranillo, and Syrah.

I am from: Lodi AVA, Central Valley, California, USA (100% estate-grown fruit sustainably farmed from historic family vineyards nestled between the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains).

The Story: Peirano Estate Vineyards stands as an absolute cornerstone of California viticultural history, with its roots stretching back to 1879 when Italian immigrant Giacomo Peirano arrived from Genoa. By 1881, Giacomo had begun farming some of Lodi's very first wine grapes, establishing a multi-generational legacy that has now spanned over 140 consecutive years of continuous family operation. Today, the estate is guided by the colorful Lance Randolph alongside his daughter, representing a magnificent "old school meets new school" creative collaboration. This bottling, the "Sea Enchantress," is the celebrated second release within their coveted The Artist Series.

Lodi’s distinct Mediterranean climate—marked by intense daytime sun tempered by cool, evening delta breezes descending from the bay—allows these thick-skinned varieties to develop dramatic flavor density while rooted in deep, well-draining sandy loam soils. To capture this luxurious intensity, the fruit is meticulously hand-picked into small bins to protect cluster integrity. In the cellar, each grape variety is vinified completely separate using custom-selected yeast strains designed to optimize individual varietal character. After an extended maceration on the skins to extract maximum color and plush phenolics, the components are pressed and matured in a tailored combination of French and American oak barrels (15% new) before being masterfully blended into a seamless, high-octane whole.

Why You'll Love Me: It is a gloriously rich, unctuous, and decadently full-bodied red that wraps your palate in a plush, velvet embrace—trading harsh, aggressive tannins for pure, liquid luxury. In the glass, it draws you in with an impossibly deep, dark crimson color. The nose is an absolute festival of dark fruit and sweet spice, instantly wafting out with an aromatic bouquet of ripe dark plums, boysenberry compote, and wild strawberries, beautifully layered with complex top notes of star anise, bittersweet chocolate, violets, and a warm whisper of dried chicory. On the palate, it is wonderfully intense and mouth-coating, hitting the tongue like a luxurious bite of graham cracker spread with a thick layer of blackberry jam and black currant confiture. Supported by remarkably smooth, silky tannins, it glides effortlessly across the mouth, culminating in a long, satisfyingly soft finish highlighted by a trailing touch of black licorice, sarsaparilla, and sweet vanilla bean.
