Nicolas Idiart 2022 Sancerre
Pairs with: Chicken tikka masala
Good for: Having a versatile yet elegant white wine as your go-to
Grapes: Sauvignon Blanc
I am from: Loire Valley, France
The Story: Grown from 30-year-old vines in the village of Vinon, this Sancerre is an excellent example of the appellation, and of the attention to detail that is a hallmark of Nicolas Idiart’s production. Founder and winemaker at the Maison, Nicolas started his career in wine at the ripe age of 19. He graduated from Blanquefort, a renowned French winemaking school, and started working right away in wineries in the Loire Valley then New Zealand and Australia, and continued to hone his expertise globally before opening his own winery a decade ago. For this Sancerre 100% percent of these vines are planted on dry, chalky rocks called “caillotte,” and cultivated with a maximum of respect for the ecosystem and the environment.
Why You'll Love Me: This intensely aromatic Sancerre is easy-drinking, boasting notes of citrus and grapefruit on the nose. On the palate, look for flavors of gooseberry, mint and peach and a crisp, slightly floral finish.
