Markogianni Winery Assyrtiko Vorias Helios
Pairs with: Herbed feta
Good for: Something refreshing on a summer's night
Grape: Assyrtiko
I am from: Olympia, Greece
The story: A light skin contact orange wine made from Assyrtiko grapes grown in family-owned vineyard of the winery, in semi-mountainous Olympia. Spontaneous fermentation of grape must, in contact with the skins for 8 days, led to the production of a low intervention wine which is deliciously approachable.
Why you'll love me: Pouring a pale orange, on the nose there are honeyed fruits such as orange, elm, quince, chamomile with a botanical character and a hint of nuttiness. A medium body with moderate acidity and soft tannins makes for a delicious whole, with ripe citrus and dried apricot lending it a balanced finish.
