The Story: Navigating the labyrinth of Burgundy white wines on a budget can feel like a high-stakes gamble, but Domaine Manciat-Poncet is the ultimate safe bet. Located in the village of Chaintré, this historic estate shifted into the spotlight in the early 1980s when Claude Manciat bucked the local trend of selling fruit to mass-production cooperatives and began estate-bottling his own elite juice instead. Today, the domain is masterfully steered by his talented daughter, Marie-Pierre Manciat, who brings an uncompromising devotion to quality. For the "Les Chênes" (The Oaks) bottling, Marie-Pierre sources fruit from middle-aged vines surrounding the village of Charnay-lès-Mâcon. Remarkably, the entire estate is farmed sustainably and 100% hand-harvested—an absolute rarity in the mechanically driven Mâconnais region. To ensure the pure, uninhibited voice of the terroir sings out clearly, the grapes are gently pressed and aged on their fine lees entirely in temperature-controlled vats. By completely bypassing heavy oak manipulation, the winemaking team crafts an elegant, pure snapshot of Burgundian limestone.

Why You'll Love Me: It is bright, energetic, and beautifully plump—a masterclass in un-oaked Chardonnay that perfectly balances thirst-quenching freshness with a satisfying, creamy texture. It pours a brilliant, pale straw-yellow with shimmering emerald hints in the glass. The nose is highly expressive and instantly captivating, bursting with a fresh basket of ripe green apples, Bartlett pears, and juicy lemon zest, intricately layered with elegant nuances of white chamomile flowers, quince, and a distinct, stony mineral undercurrent. On the palate, it delivers a direct, precise attack with zero harsh edges. Thanks to the patient lees aging, it offers a subtle, velvety mid-palate roundness that wraps around a laser beam of vibrant, cool-climate acidity. Layers of clean orchard fruit glide effortlessly across the tongue before pulling into a remarkably long, savory finish highlighted by a refreshing, saline mineral snap.
