Lunaria Terre di Chieti Primitivo Ruminat
Pairs with: Gourmet burgers with blue cheese, thick-cut ribeye steak, rich tomato-based pasta sauces, or a heavy charcuterie board with cured meats
Good for: Getting your hands on a big, luscious, and deeply satisfying red that is completely biodynamic, vegan, and incredibly eco-conscious
Grape: 100% Primitivo (essentially the Italian cousin of California's Zinfandel)
I am from: Terre di Chieti IGP, Abruzzo, Italy
The Story: "Ruminat" is crafted by Cantina Orsogna under their highly expressive, low-intervention Lunaria project, which stands proudly as one of the largest certified-biodynamic wine communities in the world. While Primitivo is traditionally famous in southern Puglia, Orsogna cultivates their 100% Demeter-biodynamic fruit on high-altitude, seaside pergolas (capanne) perched right between the Adriatic Sea and the rugged Maiella mountains. Fermented completely with wild yeasts and aged naturally in concrete tanks with minimal sulfur, this bottle is instantly recognizable by its distinct, rustic piece of string hand-tied over the cork.
Why You'll Love Me: It is bold, plush, and decadently fruit-forward. Pouring a vibrant ruby red, it envelops you in intense, warm aromas of sun-ripened black cherries, dark plums, carob, and a cozy hint of dark chocolate and baking cloves. On the palate, it delivers a rich, velvety medium-to-full body with soft, melting tannins and a beautifully round, delicately sweet hint of red fruit jam that balances a savory touch of white pepper on its long, smooth finish.
