Kir Yianni Imathia 2019 The Fallen Oak
Pairs with: Keftedes
Good for: Having a glass while you cook and another with dinner
Grapes: Xinomavro, Merlot, Syrah
I am from: Naoussa, Greece
The Story: Balancing between the hundred-year long family tradition and the use of new, innovative techniques in winemaking, the aim of Kir-Yianni is to produce wines that appeal to the taste of the modern consumer reflecting the potential of the Greek vineyard and of its indigenous varieties, such as the noble red Xinomavro.
The viticultural zone of Amyndeon is the coldest winemaking zone of Greece, featuring a mild continental climate, with fresh summers, cold winters and low growth season rainfall lower than 6 in. Thanks to these conditions, Amyndeon has been renowned for its wines since the ancient times, and Kir-Yianni honors that tradition with careful attention to each of its parcels, sustainable agriculture, and hand-harvesting.
Why You'll Love Me: Balanced and elegant, complex red fruit aromas coyly emerge on a background of coffee, cocoa, bread crust and vanilla from oak maturation. On the palate it is soft, with discrete tannins, balanced acidity and a lingering, earthy tone to the finish.
