I am from: Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOP, Southern Rhône Valley, France

The Story: The Boisson family has been deeply rooted in Châteauneuf-du-Pape for generations, working dual trades as both winemakers and village blacksmiths. The estate’s name, "Caboche," comes from an old Provençal word for horseshoe nails—a proud nod to their ironworking heritage. Today, the estate is farmed sustainably (certified HVE) with plots stretching across the region's most famous terroirs, including the rocky plateau of La Crau. The vines are blanketed by galets roulés—large, smooth, sun-baked quartz stones that absorb the fierce Mediterranean heat by day and radiate it back to the grapes at night. To preserve the vibrant, soulful identity of their old-vine Grenache, the winemakers age the juice for less than a year in a thoughtful mix of large traditional oak foudres, concrete, and stainless steel tanks, intentionally avoiding the heavy makeup of small new oak barrels.

Why You'll Love Me: It captures the quintessential, sun-drenched romance of the Southern Rhône with stunning purity and polish. It pours a deep ruby-red with brilliant violet highlights. The nose is incredibly expressive and highly aromatic, bursting with sweet red berries, ripe kirsch, and crushed wild strawberries, flawlessly woven together with complex notes of cracked black pepper, dark chocolate, and fragrant garrigue (the wild thyme and rosemary that sweetens the local countryside air). On the palate, it delivers a medium-to-full body with a remarkably plush, velvety texture. A beautiful core of juicy red fruit is held aloft by a refreshing mineral backbone and fine, silky tannins, rolling into a long, warming finish accented by a playful kick of exotic spice and menthol freshness.
