I am from: Vin de France (Limoux / Magrie), Languedoc, France (Sourced from the south-facing "Fount d’en Festo" parcel in Magrie at 250 meters elevation, rooted in stony clay-limestone soils).
The Story: Tucked into the high-elevation foothills of the Pyrenees near Limoux, Domaine Bernatas is an artisanal, certified organic and biodynamic estate devoted to crafting low-intervention, living wines. Named "L'Imprudence" (French for imprudence or reckless audacity), this cuvée celebrates a bold departure from winemaking convention: crafting an energetic, bone-dry blanc de noirs entirely from dark-skinned Cabernet Sauvignon. Cultivated on the sun-drenched, south-facing hillside plot of "Fount d'en Festo," the grapes are hand-harvested at peak aromatic freshness, where cool Pyrenean mountain breezes temper the Mediterranean sun to preserve vibrant natural acidity.
In the cellar, the grapes undergo immediate direct pressing to isolate the clear juice before color extraction occurs. The wine ferments naturally using only indigenous yeasts and matures over nine months in a balance of 500-liter French oak demi-muids and stainless steel tanks. Bottled without fining or filtration and with minimal sulfur additions, it represents an unadorned, pure, and brilliantly original expression of terroir.
Why You'll Love Me: It is an audaciously inventive, textured, and deeply expressive blanc de noirs that marries broad stone-fruit generosity with laser-like saline tension. In the glass, it pours a pale, radiant straw with shimmering golden highlights. The nose is captivating and complex, wafting out with an aromatic bouquet of crisp white peach, crunchy pear, and citrus peel, seamlessly interwoven with top notes of praline, crushed hazelnut, white blossoms, and wet river stones. On the palate, it glides with an ample, medium-bodied, and texturally silken stride; a succulent wave of orchard fruit and lemon flesh is grounded by a subtle phenolic grip and driven forward by a beam of high-altitude acidity. Structured, savory, and full of vitality, it glides into an expansive finish marked by a trailing touch of citrus pith and a persistent, stone-dust mineral snap.
