I am from: Touraine AOC, Loire Valley, France.

The Story: Back in the 18th century, Clos Roussely was a simple outbuilding attached to an enormous castle overlooking the Cher River in the picturesque village of Angé. In 1917, Anatole Roussely purchased the property to transform it into a winemaking facility. Today, his great-grandson, the exceptionally dynamic Vincent Roussely, represents the fourth generation carefully stewarding this historic estate. Vincent is a passionate traditionalist who shifted the property to strict organic farming in 2007. To protect the natural health of the soil, he rejects all synthetic chemicals and manages the land entirely by hand and horse-drawn plows, allowing sheep, donkeys, and a lush array of wild flora to thrive directly among the vines.

But the true theater of Clos Roussely unfolds directly beneath the ground. The grapes grow on a pristine terroir of clay-limestone heavily packed with pockets of ancient flint (silex). Directly beneath these roots sits a 250-year-old labyrinth of hand-dug tuffeau limestone caves. Inside these subterranean galleries—where the stone walls are well over a meter thick—Vincent has built custom-shaped stainless steel tanks nested right into the cave walls themselves. Fermented completely naturally with wild native yeasts and zero chemical fining agents, the wine undergoes a slow, perfectly insulated, temperature-stable slumber for six months, safeguarding a pure snapshot of the Loire countryside.

Why You'll Love Me: It is an absolute overachiever, delivering the precise, soil-driven energy of a high-end Sancerre at a fraction of the price. In the glass, it pours a brilliant, pale straw color with shimmering translucent edges. The nose is highly expressive and instantly captivating, bursting with a vibrant bouquet of pink grapefruit peel, lemon flesh, and juicy white peach, beautifully interwoven with notes of fresh-cut nettles, wild garden herbs, and a clear undertone of chalky flint. On the palate, it strikes a beautiful balance: while it offers a light-to-medium frame with a juicy, fleshier core of pineapple and stone fruits, it completely avoids any aggressive, enamel-stripping sourness. Instead, its crisp, vibrant line of natural acidity carries the fruit smoothly across the tongue, sailing into a long, generous finish defined by a clean, mouthwatering saline mineral snap.
