I am from: Lirac AOP, Southern Rhône Valley, France

The Story: Positioned right across the Rhône River from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Lirac is one of the Southern Rhône’s best-kept secrets, sharing the exact same sun-drenched clay, limestone, and stony soils. Château de Ségriès is a historic property that acts as a benchmark champion for the appellation. The name "Ségriès" stems from a Provençal word meaning "water spring," a fitting title for an estate whose ancient vines manage to find perfect balance in the blazing Mediterranean heat. What sets this Rouge apart from generic regional blends is its magnificent pedigree: it is crafted entirely from ancient bush vines averaging 80 years of age. Hand-harvested and 100% destemmed, the juice undergoes a long, traditional maceration in concrete tanks to coax out pure, unadulterated fruit character without relying on heavy oak barrel influence.

Why You'll Love Me: It is forward, incredibly plush, and deeply satisfying, offering a beautiful harmony of rich fruit and savory spice. It pours a dense, dark garnet-red color in the glass. The nose is highly expressive and distinctly Provençal, bursting with a rich compote of summer plums, wild boysenberries, and preserved black cherries, seamlessly layered with notes of cracked black pepper, licorice, and fragrant garrigue (the wild lavender, thyme, and rosemary that blankets the Southern French countryside). On the palate, it delivers a full, generous body packed with juicy dark berry flavors. The old-vine concentration yields a velvety, mouth-coating texture that stays freshly balanced by a vibrant energy and frames itself beautifully with sweet, melted tannins on a long, smoky finish.
