Case of Braida "Il Bacialé" 2018 Monferrato Rosso (6 bottles)
Pairs with: Truffle risotto with roasted chicken
Good for: Adding some elegance to your everyday red
Grapes: Barbera, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc
I am from: Monferrato, Piedmont
The story: Braida’s story is linked to that of Rocchetta Tanaro, a small town in the Monferrato area. Run by third-generation winemaker Giuseppe Bologna, Braida gets its name from the nickname of his grandfather (also Giuseppe). In Piedmont, few winemakers have done more to elevate the reputation of Barbera, and this bottle is strong evidence of that. "Il Bacialé" in Piedmont dialect means "the matchmaker" and describes the person who arranged marriages between members of noble families in the area. This wine thus gets its name from what the producers see as the "perfect marriage" of Barbera and other grape varieties.
Why You'll Love Me: Roasted black fruit, pepper and a woodsy spice dominate an inviting aromatic profile. A lush, full palate exhibits a pronounced herbal character complemented by notes of roasted plums, figs and spice while fine tannins and lingering licorice notes add depth.
