The Story: Born in the rugged, sun-drenched landscape of southwestern Sicily near Lake Arancio, Bacaro is a brilliant tribute to the island’s most famous indigenous red grape. While many entry-level southern Italian reds can feel overly heavy or jammy from the intense Mediterranean heat, the secret to Bacaro's exceptional balance lies in altitude. The vineyards sit between 300 and 600 meters above sea level, enjoying a noticeably cooler microclimate that allows the grapes to preserve their lively, natural acidity. After being gently destemmed and crushed, the juice undergoes cold maceration before maturing for at least 6 months in a mix of French and American oak barrels, yielding an approachable, character-driven wine that punches well above its price tag.
