2020 Hirsch 'Reserve' Estate Pinot Noir
Pairs with: Mushroom and truffle risotto
Good for: A chilly fall evening
Grape: Pinot Noir
I am from: Sonoma Coast, California
The Story: Lying adjacent to the great San Andreas Fault on the extreme western Sonoma Coast, Hirsch Vineyards is a single vineyard comprised of 61 distinct farming blocks. These blocks cover an area of 72 acres, resulting in a degree of fragmentation that is unmatched even by the famously subdivided vineyards of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. Each block was individually planted based on its unique combination of soil, exposure and topography, and each is farmed, harvested and vinified separately.
Why You'll Love Me: This elegant Pinot possesses characteristics of high-toned red fruit, with notes of ripe strawberries, plum skin and sour cherries. With air, the nose opens to reveal orange peel, sage, anise and forest floor. On the palate, the fruit is delicate yet persistent; the tannins are long and elegant. This is a complex, complete wine that will benefit from air and time.
