I am from: Côtes du Roussillon Villages, Languedoc-Roussillon, France
The Story: This wine is a brilliant creation from Michel Chapoutier, the legendary, pioneering winemaker of the Rhône Valley who expanded into France's wild, sun-baked south. Meaning "The House of Bila," the estate was historically a refuge for the Knights Templar (whose cross still adorns the label). Grown on the steep slopes of the Agly Valley, the ancient vines battle intense Mediterranean winds on unique gneiss and schist soils to produce fruit with incredible depth.
Why You'll Love Me: It is a joyous, full-throttle explosion of pure dark fruit and southern French character. Unmarred by heavy oak aging, it bursts with bold aromatics of ripe black cherry, plum, and wild blackberries, beautifully laced with peppery spice, licorice, and savory hints of garrigue scrubland herbs. It is fleshy, robust, and beautifully structured, finishing with a velvety texture and a surprising, mineral-driven freshness that keeps it remarkably light on its feet.
