Domaine la Soumade 2019 Rasteau Cuvee Prestige
Pairs with: Roast venison with garlic mashed potatoes
Good for: Sitting on the patio of a cabin in the forest
Grapes: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvédre
I am from: Rasteau, Rhône Valley, France
The Story: The Roméro family has owned the winery for generations, but the current Father/Son duo started bottling their own wines in 1979, including this amazing Cuvée!  The vines that this wine comes from are between 30-50 years old, planted in clay and limestone soils, which brings excellent complexity and depth to the finished product.  This wine is aged in steel tanks, and large old barrels, so the complexity of the grapes & terroir can really shine through.
Why You’ll Love Me: This wine has zesty notes of blackberry, granite minerality and green peppercorn spice. It is balanced by brisk acidity as well as a structured but non overwhelming tannic finish.
