I am from: Finger Lakes AVA, New York, USA (Sourced from historic hillside vineyards overlooking the deep, glacier-carved waters of Keuka and Seneca Lakes).
The Story: The name Dr. Konstantin Frank isn’t just a brand on a label; it is the legendary birthplace of premium cool-climate winemaking in North America. Back in the 1950s, conventional viticultural wisdom dictated that European Vitis vinifera vines could never survive the brutal, freezing winters of upstate New York, leaving the region relegated to native American varieties and hybrid grapes. Enter Dr. Konstantin Frank—a brilliant Ukrainian immigrant with a PhD in viticulture and a stubborn streak of genius. He looked at the deep, glacier-formed Finger Lakes, recognized that their immense depth acted as massive thermal radiators to protect the slopes from frost, and defiantly planted Riesling.
In 1962, he proved the entire industry wrong, permanently transforming the Finger Lakes into a world-class wine region. Today, the estate remains proudly family-owned and operated, now guided by the third and fourth generations of the Frank family. For this hallmark Semi-Dry expression, the fruit is harvested at optimal ripeness and cold-fermented entirely in stainless steel vats. The winemaking team intentionally stops the fermentation just before all the natural grape sugars are consumed, capturing a piece of liquid history that perfectly balances luscious fruit with the region's signature cool-climate energy.
Why You'll Love Me: It is an absolute masterclass in tension, delivering a gorgeous, crowd-pleasing touch of natural sweetness that never feels heavy because it is immediately chased down by a lightning bolt of electric acidity. In the glass, it pours a brilliant, pale straw-gold color. The nose is spectacularly expressive and highly aromatic, instantly greeting you with a vibrant basket of fresh Granny Smith apples, juicy white peaches, and bright Bartlett pears, beautifully underscored by top notes of lime zest, orange blossom, and a faint, sophisticated whisper of stony minerality. On the palate, it strikes with a light-to-medium body and a wonderfully juicy mouthfeel. The kiss of residual sugar coats the tongue with a lush, friendly roundness, but the estate's razor-sharp, mouthwatering acidity cuts straight through the richness like a laser, leaving the palate entirely refreshed and sailing into a clean, crisp, and beautifully balanced finish.
