I am from: Casablanca Valley, Aconcagua, Chile.
The Story: Sourced from rugged coastal mountain vineyards positioned a mere 14 miles from the chilly Pacific Ocean, Quartz (frequently labeled as Red Quartz) is a small-production passion project masterminded by talented winemaker Vicente Johnson. Having spent years making wine and studying in California, Johnson returned to Chile struck by how much the fog-shrouded, breeze-swept hillsides of the Casablanca Valley mirrored the ultra-premium coastal terroirs of Sonoma. The wine takes its name from the estate’s remarkable soil composition—ancient, weathered granite packed with a heavy presence of quartz crystals tucked beneath a layer of sand and vibrant red clay (which actually stains the buried crystals a unique reddish-orange hue). While modern science can't fully map out how quartz crystals alter vine psychology, the winemaking team leans happily into the ancient cultural belief that the stones cleanse, balance, and strengthen, aiming for that exact same energetic harmony inside the bottle. To ensure the wine remains lithe and expressive, local farming families hand-harvest the fruit relatively early in the season to lock in its crisp acidity. The juice is then gently fermented in stainless steel before resting for six months in neutral French oak barrels to naturally polish its structure without masking the fruit.
Why You'll Love Me: It is bright, wonderfully lithe, and beautifully fragrant—a textbook cool-climate Pinot Noir that trades heavy-handed oak extraction for pristine fruit purity and a mouthwatering savory edge. It pours a clean, translucent ruby-red color in the glass. The nose is highly expressive and instantly charming, greeting you with a lifted aromatic basket of fresh strawberries, red cherries, and wild raspberries, beautifully underscored by delicate nuances of rose petals, damp forest underbrush, and a crack of green peppercorn. On the palate, it hits with a supple, medium-bodied frame defined by ultra-soft, silky tannins and a refreshing undercurrent of crisp, ocean-influenced acidity. Layers of crunchy red fruits glide effortlessly across the tongue, seamlessly integrated with a subtle whisper of toasted hazelnut and ground clove before sliding into a clean, long, and remarkably balanced finish marked by a distinct mineral snap.
