The Story: Crafted by meticulous winemaker Trevor Sheehan under the innovative Precision Wine Company umbrella, the Octopoda label is all about capturing distinct regional expressions with striking clarity. For this powerhouse bottle, Sheehan sets his sights on the Red Hills AVA in Lake County, a rugged viticultural paradise positioned directly north of Napa Valley. Here, the vineyards thrive at dramatic elevations between 1,400 and 3,000 feet above sea level, rooted in brilliant red, iron-rich volcanic soils. The combination of intense alpine sunshine and chilly mountain nights forces the vines to struggle, producing tiny berries with thick, ultra-concentrated skins. The result is a wine that delivers all the muscular depth and opulent fruit of classic California Cabernet, but with a natural, high-altitude freshness that prevents it from ever feeling heavy-handed.
Why You'll Love Me: It is a bold, velvety, and deeply satisfying crowd-pleaser that flawlessly bridges plush fruit indulgence with a serious structural backbone. In the glass, it pours a dense, deep ruby-purple color. The nose is remarkably expressive and opulent, opening with an intense basket of black cherries, ripe blackberries, and fleshy blue plums, beautifully spun through with layers of dark chocolate, black licorice, and fragrant vanilla cream. On the palate, it hits with a rich, full-bodied, and hedonistic mouthfeel that wraps your palate in concentrated black fruit and warm baking spices. Thanks to the crisp mountain acidity and fine-grained, well-melted tannins, the wine glides across the tongue with zero hard edges, building to a supple, lush finish laced with a whisper of tobacco leaf, cedar, and orange zest.
