The Story: Doug Margerum has been involved in the Santa Barbara food and wine scene for over 35 years. The former owner of the Wine Cask restaurant and Vita Nova winery, he began Margerum in 2001 in a tiny 240 square foot cold room behind Brander Vineyards. The philosophy: return winemaking to its previous form of production -- handcrafted and personal.
Today, Margerum produces limited quantities of wines made from grapes grown both on its estate and grapes purchased from other top vineyards in and around Santa Barbara County, carefully selecting them with meticulous attention to detail in all factors influencing the ultimate quality of the wines, including pruning, soil, climate, and farming methods.
Why You’ll Love Me: The aroma beguiles with stone fruit, granite, white flower blossoms, and creamy lemon, all layered with a slight hint of gunflint. Acid-driven yet balanced, this bottle shows off lemongrass, and green melon, maintaining depth and structure all the while.
