Evesham Wood Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
Pairs with: Roasted duck
Good for: When you need a pick-me-up
Grape: Pinot Noir
I am from: Willamette Valley, Oregon
The Story: Founded by Russ Rainey in 1986, Evesham Wood is based on the idea that small is beautiful. To maintain a high level of quality, they rely on two basic principles: obtaining optimally ripe low-yield fruit from the best possible sites in the Willamette Valley, and using minimal intervention in the winemaking process. That approach is alive and well today, and is evident in every bottle produced.
Vineyards such as Illahe (Mt. Pisgah, Polk County, Oregon AVA) and Mahonia (Willamette Valley, in the Jory hills just south of Salem) that Evesham Wood has been working with for decades make up the bulk of the blend along with Eola-Amity Hills AVA sites: Prophet, Koosah, Jubilee, and Sojeau.
Why You'll Love Me: This vintage shows a bright nose with cherry, red apple, fresh flowers, and a touch of loam along with a textural creamy/silkiness component that’s balanced by a juicy acidity. Showing well now, watch this wine evolve over the next 3 months to 8-10 years.
