I am from: Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC, Southern Rhône Valley, France.

The Story: Steered by Michel Bernard and his family, Château Beauchêne is a cornerstone of history in the Southern Rhône Valley. The spectacular depth of their "Grande Réserve" comes directly from their treasured plots of old, centenarian vines. These vines are sustainably farmed under strict HVE guidelines (High Environmental Value) to protect the area's rich biodiversity. The estate's unique genius lies in its dual-origin sourcing: a portion of the fruit comes from northern alluvial terraces blanketed in galets roulés (large, sun-baked quartz stones) and red clay near Orange, while the rest thrives on the warm, fine tawny sands in the southern end of the appellation. After a complete de-stemming and a long, 20-day maceration to gently extract color and character, the juice undergoes a partial 12 to 18-month slumber in French oak barrels and large demi-muids to beautifully polish its rugged, sun-soaked personality.

Why You'll Love Me: It is an incredibly plush, opulent, and satisfyingly honest representation of classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape that pairs serious power with an elegant, forward charm. It pours a luminous, deep ruby-red color in the glass. The nose is remarkably fragrant and floral, bursting with an inviting bouquet of ripe black cherries, wild strawberries, and crushed blackberries, intricately laced with notes of sweet vanilla bean, black olive tapenade, violets, and a heavy dusting of dried garrigue (wild thyme and rosemary). On the palate, it delivers a medium-to-full body with a remarkably smooth, rounded, and velvety texture. A succulent core of baked plum and warm kirsch is held beautifully aloft by dusty, well-melted tannins and a lively, minty freshness that slices cleanly through the richness, rolling into a long, warming finish accented by cracked black pepper and a whisper of earthy truffles.
