The Story: Dante is a deeply personal project born out of the Michael Pozzan Winery, a family-owned institution nestled in the heart of Sonoma County. Founded by Michael Pozzan in 1991, the winery was built on a deep appreciation for his family’s historical roots—his grandfather had grown grapes in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley as far back as the early 1900s. When Michael set out to design a line of exceptionally priced, reliable everyday wines, he didn’t look to a marketing focus group. He named the collection "Dante" after his eldest son, ensuring that every bottle carries a standard of personal pride and casual family warmth.
While you might spot "Sonoma" on the back label or winery address, Michael and his winemaking team intentionally utilize a broader California AVA designation for the Dante collection. This is a brilliant strategic move: it gives them the absolute freedom to source high-quality grapes from a patchwork of hidden, cool-climate coastal valleys across the state rather than being locked into a single expensive ZIP code. By blending the bright, athletic energy of different terroirs, they build a harmonious, reliable profile year after year at a fraction of the cost of a single-vineyard bottle.
