The Story: While its younger sibling, the Crianza, focuses on vibrant fruit, the Palacio de Primavera Reserva is all about depth, patience, and aristocratic maturity. To earn the prestigious "Reserva" title on a Rioja label, Spanish law dictates the wine must age for a minimum of three full years before release, spending at least one of those years in oak barrels and the rest resting quietly in the bottle. Bodegas Burgo Viejo—a collaboration of six families with generations of deep roots in the region—takes this requirement seriously. They select only their finest, lowest-yielding Tempranillo plots, aging the wine in premium American and French oak casks to create a seamless marriage of grape and wood.
Why You'll Love Me: It is incredibly smooth, velvety, and beautifully evolved. It pours a deep, dark cherry color with subtle brick-red reflections at the rim, signaling its proper maturation. The nose is a mesmerizing kaleidoscope of aromas—opening with baked dark plums and dried cranberries, which quickly give way to luxurious secondary notes of sweet vanilla bean, tobacco leaf, leather, and roasted coffee. On the palate, it delivers a rich, medium-to-full body where the tannins have melted into a silky, enveloping texture. A fine thread of vibrant acidity keeps it perfectly balanced, leading to a long, majestic finish coated in savory wood spice and dark cocoa.
