The Story: Stéphane Brocard is a winemaker with serious pedigree. The son of Jean-Marc Brocard—the legendary family name synonymous with elite Chablis—Stéphane decided to carve out his own path by moving south to Marsannay in the Côte d’Or. Under his independent boutique label, Closerie des Alisiers, he works directly with environmentally conscious growers who farm older vines (often 30 to 45 years old) across varying, highly expressive Burgundian terroirs. His focus is on pure, low-intervention négoce winemaking that delivers incredible price-to-quality value, which is a massive breath of fresh air in a region where prices have otherwise skyrocketed.
Why You'll Love Me: It captures the quintessential, airy charm of classic French Pinot Noir without being unapproachably complex or overly muscular. Fermented gently and aged primarily in stainless steel to let the raw fruit sing, it pours a translucent ruby color in the glass. The nose immediately greets you with an inviting, bright bouquet of fresh redcherries, wild raspberries, and redcurrants, nicely balanced by subtle, rustic undertones of forest floor, wild herbs, and a hint of warm tomato leaf. On the palate, it is light-to-medium-bodied, lively, and wonderfully crisp, driven by a fine thread of acidity and smooth, gentle tannins that coast into a beautifully clean, berry-focused finish.
