Clotilde Legrand 2019 Saumur-Champigny Lizieres
Pairs with: Venison Wellington, Grilled artichokes
Good for: Dinner at the cabin
Grape: Cabernet Franc
I am from: Loire Valley, France
The Story: From the pretty village of Champigny in the Loire, the area’s most exquisite and significant red wines are made. Cabernet Franc from the Loire is a keystone in wine, and this is an excellent representation. The average age of the vines in the vineyard is around 45 years, and the oldest plots date back to 1927. The vines are planted in limestone and chalk soils, and are protected by freestone walls to prioritize ideal brightness to aid in maturation. Why You’ll Love Me: Medium bodied with deep notes of dark plum, red currant, and green bell pepper. Taken from a single vineyard and with no oak aging, the Legrand is fruit-forward, with a smooth mineral-driven finish.
