Age Verification

As a retailer of fine wine, spirits, and beer Vinodivino requires all shoppers to be at least 21 years of age.

Where do you keep your wine at home - in the kitchen, basement, or fridge? Your storage spot might actually be doing more harm than good to your unopened bottles.

Luckily, storing wine at home is easy if you know what to do! Here are some tips for how to keep wine fresh in your house.

Temperature is Everything

When it comes to storing wine, temperature is the enemy. Fluctuations in temperature and humidity can speed up the aging process of your wine and actually lead to it becoming “cooked” and not tasting as it’s intended to.

It’s best to store your unopened bottles of wine at a consistent temperature of anywhere from 50 to 58 degrees Fahrenheit. This goes for your reds, whites, and rosé. If you are going to enjoy a glass of your favorite white or rosé, simply put it in the fridge for about 20 minutes prior to serving and it will be perfectly chilled.

Although a wine cooler is the best way to store your wine at the right temperature, a cabinet or another area that doesn’t experience drastic temperature changes could be a great option as well!

Keep Things Dark

Sunlight can also wreak havoc on your favorite bottle. UV rays can degrade and prematurely age wine, making it go bad faster than it’s supposed to. The good thing is light from household bulbs won’t damage the wine itself but still isn’t ideal for long-term storage.

Make sure to store your wine in a dark place. Again, while a wine cooler is ideal, a cool, dry area in your basement can be great for storage and keeping your bottles protected from any sunlight.

Store Bottles Sideways

When storing wine at home, you should try to keep your bottles on their sides. This keeps the liquid content in contact with the cork. Essentially, this ensures the cork doesn’t dry out and let in air which would oxidize your wine. Of course, this rule doesn’t apply to bottles with screw caps and glass or plastic corks.

Don’t Shake It

Many experts believe that shaking wine, even by the smallest of vibrations, can speed up the chemical reactions on the liquid. It’s important to let your wine settle when it stores, so it’s best to keep it in an area where it won’t be disturbed by movement.
